I pride myself on the ability to listen and it is with that basic action that I strive to provide that to every individual person I meet and every patient that I encounter. I believe that no one knows themselves better than the patient which is paramount to beginning the journey to not only improved mental health during a time of challenge or struggle, but a basis for realistic goals and collaborative treatment plans or expectations. I really put forth the effort to take this journey with my patients, on an individual level, however in a symbiotic or cooperative therapeutic relationship. It takes a certain boldness to be able to say "I'm struggling" and take the step toward finding that help whether it be medication or therapy and recognize this in my practice. Education and sometimes understanding of the 'why' helps take the mystery or unknown out mental health which can be reassuring for patients which is another facet that I attempt to promote during my sessions.
I make every conscious effort to create a safe, compassionate and comfortable space for the patient in order to allow the internal struggle to be externalized and the supportive treatment process to begin. My philosophy and goal since I chose to enter the world of mental health 12 years ago is to reduce the stigma and stereotypes surrounding mental health and allow the individual the same space and resource that a person with Type 2 diabetes seeking care would be afforded.
I have been fortunate during my professional experience and training to have been exposed to various conditions both inpatient, outpatient and in partial-hospitalization programs. I am board certified as a Nurse Practitioner in psychiatry and mental health from the ANCC. This experience extends to evaluation and treatment of conditions that include anxiety, depression, OCD, bipolar disorder, ADD/ADHD, mood disorders, PTSD/trauma and a special interest in binge eating disorder. I hope to continue on this education journey and work toward eating disorder certifications.
