When clients first decide to engage in therapy, it is often because they find themselves facing a specific problem, transition, loss, or difficult decision that has led them to feel overwhelmed or stuck; however, emotions like sadness and anxiety can also surface without a clear cause—even positive life changes can feel unsettling! I believe that, regardless of the reason, there is strength and courage in beginning this journey and opening oneself up to emotional growth.
I empathize with the feelings of helplessness and hopelessness that can accompany being in distress and questioning whether or not one can cope; therefore, my goal is to guide clients on a path towards identifying their inherent personal strengths, learning new or enhancing existing coping mechanisms, and becoming empowered to enact change in their lives. I provide validation, support, and encouragement during the process, and strive to create a welcoming, judgment-free space for clients to process thoughts and feelings and feel understood.
After completing my education and clinical training at Macalester College and The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, I acquired over a decade of experience providing both individual and group therapy in a multitude of behavioral health settings including inpatient psychiatric units and intensive outpatient programs. I have also supervised student interns in their training to become new clinicians. I specialize in the treatment of adults experiencing depression and anxiety, and integrate CBT skill-building with a client-centered approach to understand, validate, empower, and teach effective coping mechanisms to all individuals I serve.
